Border Collie
[edit]Hey, there. I just noticed the addition of the border collie image to the article. I agree with the caption on the BC page, but I think the line on the image itself may be worth rewording: "She is rather small (not at all difficult to pick up and carry), as is typical of working-type BCs"
Many of the herding dogs - while athletic and lithe (especially compared to conformation dogs) - are definitely not easy to pick up. We've got males, for example, in the 55 pound range. Hmm... perhaps it just depends on who's doing the 'picking'? 32.97.182.177 19:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Nominating FP for QI
[edit]Two of the pictures you have just nominated for QI already have the FP status. Doesn't make much sense, does it? :-) - Alvesgaspar 00:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
QI closing process
[edit]I've been taking care of the closing process at Commons:Quality images candidates for a while. But I already have a similar task at Commons:Featured picture candidates and I don't have the time to do both. Since you are so active now in QI, do you want to take over? - Alvesgaspar 00:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello! I would be happy to help, I'm not sure if I'm quite ready (or sure enough of what I'm doing) to take on all the work, but that could change. I do have a question about closing: the QIC page says on the subject of closing that images should be promoted two days after review, and that unassessed images should stay up for 15 days at max. Does this mean that (for example) all the images on the 7th should be removed and dealt with appropriately while all the images on the 6th should stay up until the 21st? (perhaps a bit of a foolish question, but I don't want to mess things up). Also, my apologies for nominating those FPs, I simply wasn't paying enough attention. --Pharaoh Hound 14:03, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Because I'm not sure of having understood your question, I'll give you an example. Suppose a picture is nominated today, the 10th January. If, by the 25th January, it hasn't generated any "promote" or "decline" review then it will be archived without promotion and the Category:Unassessed QI candidates added to its file. If, during this same period, the image is object of a "promote" or "decline" review (for example, on the 1st February), then there will be a grace period of 48 hours during which that decision can be contested. If there is a contestation the image will be moved to the Consensual review (see the local rules there); if not, the decision will be executed. After the grace period has expired (on the 3rd February), the status of the image (promoted or not promoted) cannot be altered, even if the nomination stays in the page for some time (that depends on the attention and "working rithm" of the closer). Good work! - Alvesgaspar 14:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Hi there! Any chance you would reconsider your opposing vote on the QI voting of Image:Kea filtered.jpg as the problem with chromatic aberration shouldn't be as bad as it was? Thanks! –Dilaudid 18:06, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: photo of Beta with Red spots on tail
[edit]Hi there, I came across your photo of the beta with the red spots on it's tail and would like to know if you have any information on this type of Beta? You mentioned that you have not seen a beta like it however I have one and have never seen one like it. In fact after searching the web you have the only photo that comes close in comparison, blue eyes and all. Thanks for your time.
- My fish was purchased from the "Aqua Creations" fish store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I don't know who bred it, but it was most likely a Canadian breeder. You reminded me that there were several other Bettas with similar colouration there when I bought my fish (probably from the same spawning), but I haven't seen any in that store since. According to some sites about Betta genetics it seems we most likely have fish that "blonde", Cambodian, and "marbled" all at once. "Blonde" refers to a lack of black pigmentation (known as "dilute" in cats and dogs), a recessive trait. Marbled would create the spots on the fins, but most marbles also have spots on the body. I can't find anything closer than that, sorry. --Pharaoh Hound 00:34, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
