They´re really doing what comes naturally to them, deciding that alerting the house to passers by is their familial purpose. It may be counter intuitive, but try thanking them and calmly acknowledging their contribution. They´ll probably quiet down when they see you understand.

That sounds very frustrating. It might be time to bring in a certified professional dog trainer to assess your situation. Here are a few questions I’d have: How many hours is he in the crate during the day? at night? Have you noticed him getting separation anxiety? Where is your crate located and is it a quiet area? Have your gotten a health check with your vet?

He’s a three month old German Shepard that we got at 10 weeks old. He is having trouble with potty training, with the most discouraging being his accidents in his crate. His crate is the correct size, there’s no blankets or anything inside AND we’ve used the cleaner that you recommend to get rid of the smell of urine. He will go all night long without using the potty in his crate, but then we’ll put him in there during the day for less than an hour and he pees in it and lays right down in the pee, he doesn’t seem to care at all. I don’t understand why he is fine all night long but then pees almost every single time he is crated during the day. We walk him, he pees and gets praised, and he’s kept on a consistent feeding schedule. It doesn’t matter what time I crate him, nine times out of ten, he’s going to pee. Any advice? I’m over having to washing my dog and crate every single time I leave the house.

Congratulations on your new puppy! It could be that his pen is too large. When we had our Aussie Mix Linus he definitely preferred a smaller space and when we gave him more space he became more anxious. This article on crate training might help:

Hopefully that helps. Good luck with your training!

We have a doggie playpen (the outside pen that’s used for containment exercise) that we keep in the kitchen for him to use instead of a crate. The reason for that is that he WILL NOT calm down in a crate and barks/whines non stop. He still barks and whines for a while when I put him in his pen at night and he seems to be anxious so I’m not real sure he even sleeps. Could the pen be too big for him? Also, he is already really attached to me and we tried the crate in our bedroom but he sees me and won’t settle down. He also won’t sleep during the day unless I’m holding him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They are very small about 10 lbs. Napoleon syndrome I think. They are barkers and I am at my wits end trying to get them to stop. They bark at anything walking by the house. I’ve tried everything.

I will bring a Welsh Pembroke Corgi puppy home, her name is Elspie and she will be next month at the end of May seven weeks. However, I have a little worry, the travel time is 5 hours and stops its freedom and the regular traffic is closer to six hours before you come home. So I wonder how this will go, because you have so much experience.

We have wee accidents in the house with them both but the little girl won’t stop pooping in the house and not on the puppy pads either. It doesn’t matter how many times you take them out or how long they are out for. I know their only young, the wee’s I expected but not all this poop. They’re both doing 4 a day and are only fed a small amount at breakfast and tea. Any advice would be most welcome

I have a 15 week old husky mix. I have a couple of questions and concerns that I’m not sure how to properly approach.
first, I got her large breed puppy food and the recommended serving size is 2/3 cup a day so 1/3 in the morning and 1/3 at night for her age. Except she was starving, trying to eat the other dogs food and licking the floor and bottom of the bowl looking for more and when we gave her dinner she would devour the whole bowl. so now we are giving her a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening, in the afternoon though she still acts as though she’s so hungry, she jumps in the bowl and will go to where we keep her food and sit. Should I be feeding her more food in the morning/evening or feed her in the afternoon as well?

Secondly, we are crate training her at night and whenever someone is available to watch her at all times we let her stay downstairs to play with the other dogs. But she’s not fully potty trained but will poop and pee right when we take her out but also has no problem using the bathroom inside when we come back in (like how does she still have that much pee?) and we’ve followed the rules about not punishing her when she does it but should we be keeping her in the crate and only take her out to go to the bathroom? or how should we go about that? we are trying to keep her out to socialize her with the other dogs and family members and she does well with being out.
Thank you
