It’s crazy to think that her breed only lives for around 5-7 years.

She’s such a great dog, but the breed in recent years has had so many issues (health wise).

Thanks for sharing this post, I learned a lot from it!

I understand the feelings of losing what it close when it comes to dogs or even cats. My family and I had a black dachshund when I was younger. As soon as we came to Montana we had to get rid of her. He name was Heidi. She was 18 years old.

I had to put down my long hair mini dachsund Friday April 22, 2016.
He had a number of problems too- blind, deaf and infected anal sacs.
With progressing Cushing disease.
I wanted him out of his suffering – hard decision to make.
I feel like I’ve lost a part of me, I miss him terribly. I have to remember everything happens as its suppose to – I find working at accepting what life deals us – makes it a bit easier to bear. My little companion is out of his suffering now. Time will ease the emotional pain and loss.

I’m sorry for your losses. I recently lost my dachshund, who almost made it to the age of 16. How were you able to stop grieving? How long did it take?

To begin, she had a stroke and became disoriented, therefore, falling into our pool. We immediately gave her CPR and seeked medical care, and she fortunately made it. Unfortunately, after running various tests, it was discovered that she had a brain tumor and high calcium levels, and we chose to euthanize her. My family and I are still grieving over the loss and were looking for some tips on how to handle the situation.
