We have a very similar situation. Have you found anything that helped?

He has never been aggressive towards other dogs or people, although he is scared of people he doesn’t know and will hide behind my legs. He is also 110 lbs. In the last couple of months, he has started showing aggression towards one of our other dogs who is also a male but has been fixed. He usually only does it when the other dog approaches me. Sometimes the growling escalates into a fight because the other dog does not back down. I am at a loss of what to do. He is still never aggressive towards other animals or people, just this one dog.

He’s not around a lot of other dogs, but he guards me from other family members in the home! What I found interesting in the article above is the point about dogs that are allowed on the furniture. Our dog sleeps at the foot of our bed and will often snuggle up next to me when I’m in bed reading at night. Those are the times I notice it the most… my husband has come in to get on the bed and my dog will do a quick growl and hop up quickly and turns towards him. Another time my teenage son came in (to actually see the dog, not me) and he did the same thing. He did not nip, but I don’t like how quickly he turns towards them. Immediately afterward, he seems fine and will let my husband or son pet and love on him, or let them approach me. At first I thought maybe he was just being startled, but now I’m not so sure. So we’ll be trying to keep him off the furniture. He has always slept in my son’s or our bed, and I’m sure he does so when he’s home alone when we’re at work and school, so it won’t be easy. He is 4 1/2 years old and I just started to notice this behavior. I’d love any other advice!
