I hope things are going better with Luna. I constantly work hard with my three dogs and sometimes feel like they just don’t get it either. Try to be consistent and persistent. If you still feel like you need help you might try contacting a personal trainer.

@Andrea, Thanks for the great comment. The videos have definitely helped me better understand my relationship with my three dogs. We are constantly working on our training (dog and human). I plan on reviewing the next two DVD’s within the next couple days. Sorry it’s taking a while to get the reviews out, but the holidays have definitely kept me busy.

It was very helpful and cleared up some questions I had about the Mastering Leadership series.

I love The Dog Whisperer, and when I heard that Cesar had training videos available, I was really interested. While people tell me I have a “good dog” (and he is by regular, non dog people standards,) I know him better than anyone, and we absolutely have some key issues we need to work on. Our biggest, I think, is that he does NOT play nicely with others, which in turn causes me to isolate him from places where we may encounter other dogs and consequently he is deprived of outings to the dog park, the lake, the river, and even walks around our own neighbourhood (lots of dogs run loose where we live, which sends me into nervous overdrive. Not much of a leader hey?) I used to think he was just a socially awkward dog, but apparently he’s not, I AM. As a result of my ignorance, he is definitely not a balanced dog. I now know that, sadly, I created this, and he has been, and still is, living an unfulfilled existence. It makes me sad that I’ve done this to him. However, I will learn from my mistakes and work on making his life better. Cesar’s video sounds like a great tool and a good place for me to begin my “re-education” 🙂 So, thanks again for the helpful review. This is my first visit to your site, but it’s bookmarked now, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of your review of the Mastering Leadership DVDs.

And every time I attempt the tactics shown on The Dog Whisperer, it just never quite works. The veterinarian has told me that he believes Luna is mentally challenged, which sometimes is very believable and other times I think that’s all crap.

Regardless, she just never seems to “get it”. She doesn’t understand WHY I won’t let her walk ahead. And never relents in trying to gain her dominance back…(back? Hmm, did she ever really lose it to begin with?).

My boyfriend thought it was just me not being assertive enough until he moved in and he was quickly humbled by how impossible she is to control sometimes. In any case, I never stop trying to train but it’s a constant struggle for who is in control.

I took a look at the series and reviewed it in November.

Ever since I found out about Cesar Millan the way I view dogs, has completely changed, But I also find that its just as difficult to be a pack leader to dogs that haven’t had that leadership before. But once you achieve it, even to the smallest extent eg: walking four dogs without them dragging you; its an AWESOME feeling.
