Chela was absolutely friendly and loving from the get go. Hannah was (is) the same. Neither of them ever barked, unless there was activity outside the window or there was a knock on the door. Whenever friends just walk on in, Hannah just runs to the door to “ see who’s here to visit her!”
(Not a good watchdog, but a perfect companion.)
Neither of them have EVER been aggressive. I’ve had several friends with Appleheads as well… some had what I would call “protective aggression,” (fear of you hurting their human) some were just mean, but most of them are just like mine
– Little love bugs with huge hearts for everyone and any other animal too~
Animals are like people in that they all have individual traits and personalities.
Quick little example… Not ALL Italians “talk with their hands.”
(But most of them do lol)

There is no difference between whether a deer head or an apple head is more or less aggressive. Chihuahuas are fear aggressive. They only resort to aggression when they are scared, uncomfortable, in pain, etc. Then it is only when all other body language (backing away, licking lips, cowering, ears straight up, and snarling) to try to ward off what they consider to be a threat to them is ignored that they resort to aggression. As far as all the terrible diseases that you list as being common to Chihuahuas, that is simply not true. Chihuahuas with these health issues are usually a result of poor breeding and puppy mills. Patella luxation is however common with Chihuahuas and other small dogs. Linda, editor of ChiChis And Me
