I have a 18 month Rottweiler pup. I am preparing to place him in training but I have special needs and I’m wondering who or where could I find somewhere to have him trained to help me? I do t have a lot of money but I do have a young dog and I would love to give him a bigger purpose. Any suggestions?

In reply to Liz. Thanks Liz! A lot of our friends bring their Therapy Dogs to the Children's Hospital as well to help comfort the kids. I'm glad the dog at your niece's hospital helps keep them smiling.

Great Post! I didn’t really know how much it cost to train a Service Dog. I knew it too lots of patience and time. My local hospital has a Service Dog in the Children’s wing. My niece was there last year and having a Service dog there really makes a difference. Keeps the kids smiling while dealing with their illness.

In reply to emogene. Yep! They are not cheap. A lot of work goes into raising and training a service dog. More specialized service dogs will cost even more then what we outlined in this blog post.

Thanks for this post! It’s amazing all of the small expenses that you don’t think of, it’s nice to see it all broken down like that. Service dogs are so important to the people they serve, thank you for all of your hard work with these valuable animals. I can’t wait to see the photos of Raven’s new puppies when they are born. In reply to Evan. Unfortunately fake service dogs has been a problem here in California for quite sometime now and it can cause a problem for people with real service dogs. For everyone out there thinking about buying an SD vest for their pet dog, if you do not require a service dog please don't parade your pet around as a service dog. Thank you.

In the state of Colorado you can now just register your dog and go buy a service dog vest. Many people take advantage of this unfortunately. This article is about real service dogs! Thanks!

In reply to Allison. Puppy raisers are a big part of the process. If you factored in the time they take to teach basic obedience, good house manners, and socialization then the cost for a service dog would be much, much higher.
